Topic for the day:
PROJECT SUPERSTAR !
The grand final is only 10 days away. The male champion Darren Tan and female champion Tan Diya will be competing to be the ultimate winner at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. I just felt that Carrie Yeo should be the female champ as her vocals, technics and stage presence are better than Diya's. Especially the ability to move the audience with the song, Carrie had showed her power to touch during the round when she was eliminated. Well, no offence to any Diya's fans who happen to come across my blog! But i guess popularity and wide fan-base still plays an important role. Don't you think so?

Such reality shows like American Idol, Singapore Idol, Superhost and of course Project Superstar itself had intentionally or unintentionally promote certain beliefs and values. Some of the values are to be applauded but on the other hand, some beliefs are not actually desired.
Positive beliefs/values:
1. Dare to pursue your dreams
2. Boost of self confidence, believing in oneself
3. Encourage one to upgrade by attending singing classes
4. Promote family bonding to a certain degree
Negative beliefs/values:
1. A easy way to stardom
2. Discourage the real talent to surface
3. Sacrifing current study and work
4. A false message that popularity will bring them far
5. Money spent on the votes
On a personal note, Project Superstar (PSS) has indeed bonded my family closer. During that one hour of show is always the time when the whole family sat in front of the tv and communicate the most.
For those who know, i went down for the audition for PSS2. It does really take courage to do so! Though i did not even pass the first round of audition, it was a good experience to be kept with me.
Since the competition decision depends mainly on the votes, the one who is more talented would not definitely win. The one who won might not be the one who sang the best too. If you come from a wealthy family, chances of you studying in the competition is longer despite the fact you might not be as good as the not-so-wealthy one. Of course, gathering as much supporters and fans as possible would also help. Perhaps, wealthy fans too?
Taking Carrie for example, judges had given her much higher scores as compared to Diya's. But that will only amount to 30% of the decision. Telephone polls and sms will make up the other 70%. Calling and sms-ing your idol will cost $$$. Calling once will not make a difference, so supporters/fans called in 10s? 100s?
i do watch PSS and i enjoy watching them perform.
But i don't vote. Do you?
So what was intent/message that the producer of PSS was trying to convey?
